Trip Information

Check-in

Two hours before your scheduled trip, please WhatsApp or send us a text message on +27 65 707 4444 to check the weather. If the conditions are windy, the trip may be postponed. Cloud and rain are not a problem (hey, you’re getting a little wet anyway) — but our expeditions are no fun in the wind.
One of the great quirks of Cape Town (and the Cape region in general) is that it can be foggy where you are staying, and perfectly fine in Simon’s Town — or, conversely, totally calm where you are, but very windy here. Always check in before driving through to our meeting spot. Trust us on this.

The guided two-hour trip leaves from Simon’s Town Waterfront jetty on Wharf Street and there is a car park available. Arrive at least 15 minutes before departure time.

Local landmarks are Bertha’s Restaurant, Salty Sea Dog or the Post Office, if you get a little lost.

Directions

If you are driving in from the Cape Town area, use the Ou Kaapse Weg rather than Muizenberg/Kalk Bay — it can be about 20 minutes quicker. Your GPS may tell you to go via Muizenberg, but you should ignore it and follow these instructions.

Travelling by car

It’s a 60 minute journey from the centre of Cape Town. Take the M3 motorway from Cape Town (also called The Blue Route) to its end and turn right. In 2km at the second traffic light turn left up the mountain on the M64 “Ou Kaapse Weg”. This 12km long mountain pass road has wonderful views through Silvermine and winds down to Sun Valley. Keep straight on past three traffic lights and over another hill you will reach a set of traffic lights at a T-junction by the ocean. Turn right and Simon’s Town is 5kms away.

Enter destination “Wharf Street Simon’s Town” into your GPS. It may try to route you via Muizenberg, so it’s best to use our directions as above via the M3, M64, M6 route until you get to Sun Valley and then follow the GPS.

Local Direction

About 700 metres past the Simon’s Town Railway Station you will see a Shell petrol station on your right.

Shortly after passing it you will see ahead of you on the left a blue and white building with a tall mast on it.

Turn left into Wharf Street at this building. You’ll find a parking lot which usually has free spaces for you to park in. You’ll see our guides at the meeting spot near our kayaks.

Please plan to arrive around 15 minutes prior to your scheduled trip time. It’s approximately a 60 minute journey from Cape Town.

What To Wear
On Your Trip

Wear swimming trunks or shorts (long pants in winter) and a shirt. Quick-dry clothing is best — cotton/jeans are discouraged. You will get wet from the waist down, and your upper body may get damp. If it’s chilly, bring a windbreaker as well. Remember to bring a towel and change of clothing, too!

Photographs

The guide will usually have a camera with them to take pictures of you, which are posted on Facebook, but you are welcome to bring your own if it’s a small one (or a mobile phone) — at your own risk, of course. We sell waterproof mobile phone pouches at a cost R200 each (cash only).
